Codes of Eternity — Ornamental Metamorphosis of Values

2024

Birch bark, cross-stitch embroidery, acrylic glass

The project consists of a series of 15 objects crafted from birch bark, cross-stitch embroidery, and acrylic glass. These objects function as a kind of QR code, concealing concepts essential to human experience — “Justice, ” “Eternity, ” “Art, ” and others. The interactive nature of the work lies in the viewer’s ability to rearrange the modules, leading to a recoding of meanings and the creation of new connections within a unified ornamental system — a true metamorphosis of values.

The project explores graphic ornamentation in a contemporary context, examining its transformation and significance. The starting point was textual QR codes encoding universal human values. These symbols are then digitally recoded using artificial intelligence, transforming them into ornamental patterns partly reminiscent of Slavic designs. Like traditional ornaments, they carry hidden messages. The final presentation of the objects adopts an interactive format similar to the “15 puzzle”: viewers can rearrange the elements, forging new semantic connections between the concepts encrypted within them.

The series was presented in the following spaces:

  • “Experiment with tradition” — “Na Shabolovke” Gallery — Moscow, Russia
  • SVOYASY — The All-Russian Museum of Decorative — Moscow, Russia
  • Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve — Vladimir, Russia
