Codes of Eternity — Ornamental Metamorphosis of Values

2024

Birch bark, cross-stitch embroidery, acrylic glass

Comprising 15 objects, it represents a kind of QR code that conceals within itself concepts deeply important to humanity, such as “Justice, ” “Eternity, ” and “Art.” The interactive nature of the piece allows viewers to independently arrange the modules, leading to a sort of recoding and the establishment of new connections and relationships within a unified ornamental system — the very same ornamental metamorphosis of values.

Within this project, I explore graphic ornaments in a contemporary context, as well as their transformation and significance. The foundation of my research consists of text-based QR codes that encode universal human values. These graphic symbols are then subjected to recoding using AI and transformed into ornamental patterns that, in some ways, resemble Slavic motifs. Like Slavic ornaments, they carry encrypted messages. The presentation of these objects is envisioned as a large interactive game, similar to a sliding puzzle. Viewers are invited to independently arrange the objects, creating new connections and relationships between the concepts encrypted within them.

The series was presented in the following spaces:

  • “Experiment with tradition” — “Na Shabolovke” Gallery — Moscow, Russia
  • SVOYASY — The All-Russian Museum of Decorative — Moscow, Russia
  • Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve — Vladimir, Russia
